This is how it's gonna be when I get married...

So - this being the 4th wedding I've attended (3rd I've been a part of) in 6 months, I obviously have weddings on the brain. Watching other people, very close friends of mine who I want nothing but the best for, endure this, I've come to a conclusion that I feel like I need to express.

- A wedding SHOULD be about nothing but the bride and groom and celebrating them. It should NOT be taken over by drama between families, members of the same family or other guests. It should NOT be the bride or groom's responsibility to take care of minute details at the last second - I'm sorry, that is what the bridal party is for. Having been a bridesmaid twice for 2 of my closest friends, I have seen but not understood the fact that sometimes family members have bigger aspirations for the wedding than what they're truly celebrating, which I think is a load of shit. Wouldn't you want your daughter, sister, friend to be completely relaxed and happy and only focused on their marriage? It boggles my mind how people can't just accept the fact that one, two, maybe three days, should be devoted entirely to whoever is getting married and just making everything perfect for them. Wouldn't you hope your people would want that for you? So why wouldn't you work tirelessly to give that to them?

When I get married, I'm not putting up with any shit. If that makes me a brideszilla, so be it, but I think brides (or at least the ones I know) need to stick up for themselves a little bit more and just be able to say "Hey, this day is JUST about me. If you can't handle that, you can leave. I don't want you to, but you probably should if you're going to make any of this about you, because it's not." And I mean it in the nicest way possible. It's something I feel like shouldn't have to be said, but when it's not, people think it's okay to demand way too much of a bride or groom who really should be essentially catered to on those few days. Is it me? Does this not make sense? It's just one day, give them what they want.

Sidenote - downtown Newport is not a place you want to find yourself navigating for the first time in the rain and dark. I tried that last night and while it worked out fine, I had my fair share of anxious moments. Anyone who knows me knows that I liked to be prepared (or in the passenger seat) when I'm going to a new place for the first time. I hate feeling like I'm lost. Hate it. My dad always says you're not lost if you can get back to where you came from - which is true to an extent, but that only covers half of it. How about actually getting to where you need to go. So where this is going is that I didn't trust myself to get to The Red Parrot, where Kate's Bachelorette Party was starting, because I don't know the area and apparently there is not parking lot for the restaurant so I was basically on my own. So - rain, dark, trying to read directions as I go - not really a workable strategy. Long story short, once I was fairly certain I was on the street where the restaurant was, I parked my car in a metered spot at 119 Thames St. The Red Parrot is 348 Thames St. I, because I'm SO smart (and by smart, I mean lame and overly cautious), decided to WALK probably about 5 blocks in the rain and just follow the numbers on the building because I'd rather be lost on foot than in the car. I got there before Kate and the rest of the girls because they got a late start, so I had time to get a drink at the bar in go over in my head exactly how many kinds of dumb I had just been.

Kate's getting married tomorrow. Another new Mrs. in my life. Yay!
